An Overview of Trinityville Primary School

Trinityville Primary School is nestled in the western part of St. Thomas. It is a rural community

which depends on small–scale farming as its main economic activity.

The school dates back to 1912 when classes were held at two churches namely the Baptist and

Anglican. Later there was a merging of the churches which formed the Trinityville Primary

School. The school is government owned and operated. The present structure was built between

1984-1985. The plant consists of two buildings with three blocks. The Guidance Department is a

separate unit on the compound. The ground is partially fenced.

The school caters to students 6-12 years old who are placed in grades 1-6. A Special Education

Unit caters to students with special needs. The present student enrollment is 221.

Many of the students are from Trinityville and the neighboring communities of Moffat,

Mt. Lebanus, Georgia, Somerset and New Monklands. Approx. 80% of the students are

from a low socio-economic background where single-parent families are dominant.

There are a variety on clubs which cater to the social and educational needs of the students.

These include Culture, Debating, Mathematics, Brownies and 4-H. Students are active

participants in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission competitions . They have been

receiving gold and silver metals annually for performances in dance. Athletics in another field in

which students are excelling. They earned medals at the local and parish levels, and a few

students have been promoted to prominent high schools based on their outstanding performances.

 Building - Relocating the tuck-shop to facilitate an Infant Department-the Infant Department will cater to 3-5 year olds

 Complete fencing of school grounds

 Erecting a security post

 Improvement in National Exams

 Increased performance in Numeracy at the Mastery Level

 Establishing a Computer room

 Enhancing the Special Education Unit
